Julia Speer, Art Educator

About Me

I'm a working visual artist & state certified art educator. I had the privilege of teaching art in the Cobb County public schools for 20 years. I received my Fine Arts degree from University of Georgia in Athens, 1978. In 1998, I added a bachelor of Science in Art Ed. from Kennesaw State University. I retired from the public school system in 2018 and continue to teach art and inspire creative expression in children and adults.

My mission is to create a safe space to explore and experiment, and not be afraid to make mistakes. As an art educator, I want my students to have the opportunity to explore as many different art mediums as possible.

In the summer, I hold kids art camps at my home studio. It's a unique experience for a child to see a real working artist's studio. Additionally, I offer Ms. Julia's Art Studio in the Cobb County After School Program (ASP) and custom paint parties for adults and children year-round.

In my own art, I like to explore many different mediums. My favorite is ceramic clay, however I don't throw on a potters wheel. I am a ceramic sculptor. I have a studio in my home with two kilns, a very large slab roller, and a Big Blue Extruder.

Art engages our creative thinking and hones our problem solving skills. I think people greatly underestimate the power of art and the positive and life-affirming impact it can have on our world. It is an honor to be able to engage with people and to interact with the world through my art. Please check out my artist website here and my other passion, women's soul work, here
